Making Rocks

Making rocks is a lot of fun!

To make rocks the children get to smear paint on pieces of paper
and all over their hands too!

Rock making can get a little messy.

These are drying rocks, they don't look like rocks yet.

      We are making a desert on the wall.



first we hung burlap on the wall
This made the back ground look like sand.

 

Then we made some rocks and brittle bush grass.



 

The Oasis

We made the oasis with green paper for the back ground.

We used blue paper for the water

Then we made palm trees to go in  the oasis

 

                                                                                           

The palm trees were a lot of fun to make!

                                                

 

The Mystery Cage

I walked down the hallway, unaware of the surprise that awaited me in the room at the end. Students traipsed in behind me as I unlocked the door to our classroom and flipped on the lights. It took a couple of seconds to realize that something was different about our classroom. What was it? Gasps from the students directed my attention to the counter, where they had quickly gathered around a long tank filled with sand, a log and rock formation.

 

What could it possible be?

Nothing here...

Is that a tail?

It is a tail! What creature could this possibly belong too?

What kind of reptile is this? The gray tail was fat and didn't seem to match the rest of what we could see.

Aha! A head has appeared! Yellow and black spots? What animal does this remind you of?

Mrs. Nelson came to rescue and answered the children's frantic questions. Our new addition was, in fact, a leopard gecko! Though they mostly live in places like Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, and India, they have been pets in North America since 1980. 

Because we have been studying the desert this year, this pet is perfect for our class.

After much deliberation, he was christened Spots!

Unlike humans, leopard geckos store all their body fat in their tail, which is why it's so fat and gray.

Lights, Camera, STOP!

The third and fourth grade have been working on a stop motion video for around three weeks.

 It was the first stop motion they have done using stick figures!

As as result, it took two weeks drawing everything and planning out each scene.

Funday Wednesday!

"Funday Monday" is the usual catchphrase from Abigail Arbec, but today it was "Funday Wednesday," and here's why:

Giant word search! 

A giant spelling word search! Gabriel and Noah did one, and Stephanie and Abigail did the other.

Each word search had ten spelling words hidden inside. Everyone had fun taking turns to look.

After Word Search, the kids sat down and found an old picture!

"Miss Esther who is this?" "Miss Esther is that Hannah?"

The Average Day

Here is a peek into the average school day for the third and fourth grade's language class.

We always start out with good old book work

Stop Motion!

Today, the second grade class made their second stop motion video! Having just learned about contractions, it was decided that this would be the topic of the video.

Letters were colored in and cut out, and we started taking pictures!
